Job Description:

We are seeking an Instructional Designer who will work with the New Energy New York (NENY) Battery Academy workforce development team, multimedia specialists, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop online and hybrid learning programs and curricula for the workforce. The instructional designer supports the full operation, ensuring that key concepts and training needs for NENY learning experiences are aligned with the goals and standards of the wider NENY coalition and industry partners. This position collaborates with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and team members to craft engaging and effective learning solutions. The candidate must have strong editorial skills to review technical learning material, and strong writing skills to enhance comprehension of written material and video-based learning narration. Experience or familiarity with visual design and multimedia production is preferred.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the NENY Battery Academy team to create and support in-person and online learning experiences using appropriate learning modalities.
  • Collaborate with experts, NENY coalition partners and stakeholders to produce exceptional, outcome-driven, workforce training on time and within budget.
  • Develop learning assessments to validate desired learning outcomes.
  • Apply sound learning science, adult learning principles, and standards to all learning programs.
  • Develop learning assets that follow micro-credentialing policies and practices.
  • Supplement existing curricula and courses to improve learner experiences and outcomes.
  • Apply cutting-edge EdTech tools and innovative instructional design principles.
  • Build Canvas LMS pages and course shells, create and maintain content templates, and create online interactive activities and assessments.
  • Work with technical, and often complex, source material while following detailed development cycles.
  • Manage multiple tasks and timelines across a variety of projects.
  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries regarding errors, problems, or questions with online learning products.
  • Collaborate with marketing, website developers and other market-facing teams.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental action plans, work processes and systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related equivalent field.
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Up-to-date and practical knowledge of adult learning principles and Instructional Systems Design concepts.
  • Excellent editorial skills, including the ability to author course content in a conversational tone and storytelling capabilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Proven ability to distill dense, complex information into compelling, practical, consumable, scalable learning solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Willing and able to travel when needed.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or higher, preferably in education, educational technology, instructional design, or related equivalent field.
  • Experience using instructional technology, including learning management systems, video conferencing, content authoring tools (Articulate 360), graphic design (Canva, Adobe Suite), and video editing software.
  • Experience working with workforce training, systems design, and technical content (electrical engineering, battery technologies, chemistry, and/or manufacturing processes).
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Electronics/systems engineering, chemistry, AR/VR-based training, learning experience design, web development, AI tools and integrations, and/or data analytics.
  • Strong interest in the renewable energy transition and related industries.

Additional Information:

Salary: $60,000- $65,000 annually
