This role designs solutions for model, 21st Century, technology-empowered instruction to advance individuals and their communities through accessible education. The incumbent is a member of the AVP for Online Learning and Innovation’s team and will create technology-empowered learning opportunities and evidence-based programs, courses, and support services consistent with the University’s academic plan for Ohio State Online’s enrollment growth. The work is integral to Ohio State’s workforce development mission, and the role will change how Ohio State delivers education and will impact a world of diverse learners. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of shaping online program education for one of the largest and best-ranked land-grant universities—an economic engine for the State of Ohio and beyond.

The Learning Experience Designer relies on their early career professional experiences enroute toward developing deepening knowledge and skills. The role leverages the competencies gained from working on the development of online courses and programs to apply data-informed effective practices across several operational and project efforts.

The successful candidate subscribes to team and individual project management processes, aligns efforts to organizational priorities, and in partnership with the instructor (demonstrating evidence of leveraging core project-management and consulting techniques), supports courses and programs to be ready on schedule and prior to being taught. Core among these efforts includes providing clear, accurate, professional quality course content that is ready for deployment in a learning management system; attention to quality assurance via review of content for accuracy, logical flow, accessibility, and so on; and leveraging data-informed strategies for continuous improvement. Critical to the role is leveraging web, audio, video, and other electronic media, which may involve writing, editing, designing, production, and/or programming.

The position participates on an agile, effective team of learning experience design specialists serving multiple course and program projects and institutional initiatives. This includes online course and program development; instructional development; methods aimed to meet online design compliance and accreditation requirements; methods aimed at reducing the total cost of attendance; innovation in mediated-education delivery; instructor professional learning; pedagogy and andragogy evidence-based instruction and improvement; continuing education strategies; and more.

This role represents Ohio State Online with stakeholders across Ohio State and interacts with instructors across academic and support units on the Columbus and regional campuses concerning their instructional support design to achieve goals. This position helps coordinate learning materials to complete courses to be ready to be taught.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

Required Experience:

  • Years of relevant experience required: 2.
  • Experience must include online/blended course design, curriculum development, faculty development or other related area.
  • Must be proficient in various technologies used in the instructional/graphic design and assessment process.
  • Experience with learning management systems, including analytics and reporting functions.
  • Experience with course development tools, online educational technologies, digital video, audio, graphics, and learning objects.
  • Experience with standards for online instructional excellence, online learning data-informed effective practices, recognized online design standards, faculty support and training strategies, and overall project management for meeting course production timelines and deadlines.

Desired Education:

  • Master’s degree.

Desired Experience:

  • Preferred minimum years of relevant experience: 2-4.
  • Accessibility mitigation techniques.
  • Experience with Learning Analytics.
