South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking a Learning Designer I who is passionate about creating engaging learning experiences and empowering faculty with innovative teaching tools. In this role, you’ll collaborate with instructors across disciplines to bring course content to life through interactive media, emerging technologies, and thoughtful instructional design. Your work will directly support student success by helping faculty strengthen teaching and research in both traditional and digital environments. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Instructional Design Services collaborates with faculty to advance teaching and learning through the creative use of instructional design and media. Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and promoting the use of interactive rich media applications to strengthen teaching and research in a device-neutral environment.
  • Planning and delivering training workshops on learning media applications, services, and devices.
  • Consulting with faculty, staff, and students on designing, developing, integrating, and evaluating course content and instructional media.
  • Mentoring faculty on an individual basis to support instructional goals.
  • Designing and developing instructional learning media in interactive formats such as HTML5, H5P, and XR, using tools like Camtasia Studio, Panopto, MS Stream, Adobe Suite, GenAI apps, and others.
  • Providing training and advanced troubleshooting for video streaming, video conferencing systems (Zoom, MS Teams), and lecture capture applications.
  • Recommending hardware and software for the Multimedia Lab, Narration Lab, and Faculty Training Lab.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Adult Education, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design or related field completed by application date;
  • At least one year of related work and training experience in Higher Education;
  • Familiarity with digital media and AI applications (Camtasia, Microsoft Media, Panopto video, Adobe Suite, MS Copilot) for multiple platforms;
  • Experience with web-based technologies such as HTML5 and H5P media creation;
  • Experience with Learning Management System (D2L, Moodle);
  • Evidence of creating innovative and engaging learning materials, as well as developing and delivering training using;
  • Fluent in video conferencing system (Zoom, MS Teams);
  • Knowledge and skills using Camtasia Studio, Microsoft Stream, H5P media, Panopto for interactive teaching contents development;
  • Knowledge and skills in GenAI applications (MS Copilot) and GenAI curriculum integration;
  • Effective communication, interpersonal relations, and leadership skills;
  • Extensive applied and research knowledge of course design and development, distributed learning technologies, and learning theories; and
  • Proven success with course development with learning media integration and supporting various interactive media technologies.
