Since 1994, VA has been delivering evidence-based nutrition interventions and providing technical assistance to reach more than 70 million women and children in low-resource settings annually.

Vitamin Angels is an equal opportunity employer committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We are a dedicated group of individuals who strive to create a supportive environment where all individuals have access to equal opportunities to succeed, regardless of background, identity, or perspective. Our efforts aim to ensure fairness and mutual respect for all employees, promoting a culture of belonging and professional growth.

Role or Purpose of Position

We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Learning & Development (L&D) Manager to design, implement, and oversee leadership and talent development initiatives across the organization. This role will be pivotal in shaping how we grow and prepare our people for the future—designing and delivering learning initiatives that link development with potential, and strengthening leadership, people management, and technical capabilities. The L&D Manager will partner closely with the People & Culture team and senior leaders to build learning strategies, create impactful content, facilitate programs, and measure effectiveness. This role requires both strategic vision and hands-on execution, with responsibility for managing projects end-to-end and ensuring learning initiatives are aligned with organizational goals and talent needs. Additionally, the L&D Manager will partner closely with Vitamin Angels DEI Council to stay abreast of DEI strategies and implement these initiatives into learning objectives.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The major duties and responsibilities of the L&D Manager are as follows:

  • Create and facilitate training and development opportunities for people managers, emerging leaders, and technical staff.
  • Design and deliver development programs that strengthen leadership capabilities.
  • Partner with internal experts and program leaders to deepen People & Culture’s understanding of global public health, ensuring that learning and development initiatives incorporate a technical lens to better support staff growth and effectiveness.
  • Partner with the People & Culture team and senior leadership to drive talent processes, including performance reviews, succession planning, promotions, and tools such as the 9-box, ensuring growth is tied to development and potential.
  • Leverage existing communication tool, DiSC, to enhance self-awareness, strengthen team dynamics, and integrate practical applications into leadership and development programs.
  • Develop and implement learning strategies that align with organizational goals and talent priorities.
  • Build and facilitate engaging content and learning experiences (in-person, virtual, or blended) that drive measurable skill and behavior change.
  • Conduct research on Learning Management Systems (LMS), evaluating features, pricing, and scalability, to recommend the best tool for implementation.
  • Manage L&D projects end-to-end, including design, vendor management (if applicable), communication, facilitation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team and business leaders to ensure development initiatives support overall talent development strategy.
  • Define success measures for learning programs and use data/feedback to evaluate and continuously improve effectiveness.
  • Stay current on learning best practices, tools, and technologies to bring innovative approaches to the organization.
  • Stay informed and educated on diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies and partner with Council to integrate strategies into learning objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Level of Decision-Making

Within the bounds of VA’s mission, values and policies, and sound professional practices, the L&D Manager has the broad discretion to use independent judgement to manage their activities in whatever way will best serve VA clients, partners, and employees.
