Purpose

The Senior Training Specialist serves as a strategic partner and internal consultant to departments across University Housing and Dining (UHD), guiding staff through the development and implementation of effective training initiatives. This role focuses on building capacity within departments by conducting needs assessments, designing instructional content, and coaching staff on facilitation strategies. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in adult learning, instructional design, and organizational development to foster a culture of continuous learning and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain engaging training content for instructor-led, virtual, and online formats. Create toolkits, templates, and ready-to-use resources that support high quality training across the department. Ensure training materials align with University Housing and Dining values, policies, and strategic priorities. Facilitate high quality training sessions and workshops.
  • Serve as a strategic partner and internal consultant to departments in assessing training needs, identifying performance gaps, and recommending appropriate learning solutions. Lead and conduct comprehensive needs assessments to inform training design, delivery methods, and resource allocation. Evaluate existing training programs and collaborate with the Senior Training Coordinator to identify enhancements aligned with evolving organizational needs. Collaborate closely with Employee Development and Engagement team members to ensure training initiatives align with employee engagement, wellness, adult education, and organizational goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to UHD departments in developing, improving, or customizing training materials for internal use. Guide departmental stakeholders through the training development process, from initial concept through implementation and delivery, based on best practices. Coach staff serving as trainers or presenters on facilitation methods and adult learning principles. Lead train-the-trainer sessions to strengthen presentation and delivery skills. Provide constructive feedback to staff serving as trainers or presenters. Maintain a working knowledge of UTLearn (Cornerstone) and provide guidance on course creation, assignment, and reporting. Share best practices that promote a strong learning culture across University Housing and Dining. Develop tools and resources that help departments measure the impact of training and support continuous improvement.
  • Support Employee Development and Engagement initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, workplace culture, and staff recognition. Serve as an active member of the CARE Committee to support community-building, appreciation programs, and department-wide events. Participate in action planning and offer solutions that support University Housing and Dining, Operational Services and Strategies, and UT Austin strategic initiatives.
  • Provide logistical support for training sessions and events as needed, including loading and unloading wagons and vehicles, ensuring all required materials and equipment are ready according to checklists; setup and breakdown rooms. Schedule meetings, trainings and events; reserve vehicles, book rooms, arrange catering, etc. Create events and sessions in UTLearn and track training completion. Support the HR team during peak periods. Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the field of assignment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related field.
  • 5 or more years of experience in instructional design, training facilitation, or organizational development.
  • Experience with learning management systems, such as Cornerstone.
  • Experience with eLearning products, such as Articulate.
  • Experience with adult learning theory and effective training practices.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
  • Proven ability to consult with stakeholders and guide training initiatives from start to finish.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.
  • Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation.
  • Use of manual dexterity.

Work Shift

Monday – Friday, 8:00AM -5:00PM, hours days may vary due to business needs. This position will be required to work on campus.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
