Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY) is seeking an Academic Program Specialist to join the Digital Education team. Digital Education (formerly E-Learning) collaborates with all units in the Office of Academic Affairs as well as across the college to support faculty and students as they prepare for and embark upon digital teaching and learning experiences. Digital Education encourages and facilitates transformative online pedagogies and technologies that enable all BMCC students to succeed.

The Academic Program Specialist will lead faculty development sessions that equip faculty to design new online courses and redesign existing courses while fully utilizing available instructional technologies (e.g. Brightspace LMS, Zoom web conferencing, and BMCC Open Lab). They will contribute to various processes for online course review, including cohort programs, course-review workshops, and direct rubric-based assessment of course needs. They will assist CETLS (Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Scholarship), IRT (Information Resources and Technology), Library, Office of Accessibility, and other college units related to digital education projects.

  • Delivers faculty development sessions that prepare faculty to utilize a wide range of instructional technologies in their online teaching.
  • Trains and support faculty and staff in all aspects of the LMS (learning management system), guiding them through system changes and troubleshooting issues.
  • Supports faculty in matching their use of digital tools and platforms to their teaching and learning goals.
  • Conducts outreach to academic departments about strategies for expanding and enriching digital education within their departments.
  • Contributes to digital technology projects that strengthen the academic community, such as the BMCC Openlab.
  • Advises faculty and other instructional staff in effective utilization of the LMS as well as other academic technologies such as Hypothesis, Padlet, VoiceThread, and Zoom.
  • Applies checklists to online courses and communicate with faculty and staff about steps yet to be completed as they develop new courses or update existing courses.
  • Facilitates faculty recruitment, verifying that CUNY, BMCC, and academic department requirements are met, and expectations are clear to participating faculty.
  • Liaises with BMCC and CUNY Online course design teams, academic departments, and individual faculty throughout the process of launching and refreshing online programs.
  • Tracks project management milestones throughout the life cycle of online programs and ensure on-time completion of course development tasks from course developmen launch through course offering.
  • Coordinates processes for renewing NC-SARA participation and reporting out required data.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and four years’ relevant experience required.

Salary range is $79,598 – $86,741; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
