Job Description:

Located in downtown Phoenix campus, The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions seeks an Instructional Designer Associate to join the Office of Education Innovation to assist with the development, maintenance, and support of our diverse instructional modalities (online, sync, blended, and on-campus). Under general direction, assists faculty and team members in the support, design, and development of courses and course materials using learning management systems (and other learning technologies). This is an entry-level position for individuals interested in working in the field of instructional design and being a part of a collaborative team.

Salary Range: $42,000 – $46,000; depends on experience

Essential Duties:

  • Assist team and faculty in the design, development, and support of engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound online course materials.
  • Research and produce clear documentation and other instructional materials (websites, multimedia and online tutorials) to support faculty learning and course delivery.
  • Remains current on and evaluates emerging technologies that have potential value for teaching and learning through team communication, presentations, training sessions, conferences and publications.
  • Uses applications such as desktop content authoring tools, multimedia authoring tools, web/document creation applications and presentation tools to develop custom products to meet course or faculty needs.
  • Collaborates with Office of Education Innovation staff and others to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of course design and development models and processes.
  • Provides troubleshooting and other learning technology support for teaching and learning products used by faculty, students, and staff.
  • Prepare documentation for and facilitate the use of learning technologies for classroom experiences.
  • Provides course setup, content population, and assessment creation assistance.
  • Provision and configuration of courses during the course deployment process.
  • Identify and assist with remediation of inaccessible course materials.
  • Processes course copy and creation requests.
  • Participate in the quality assurance processes for courses and learning materials.
  • Work both independently and interdependently within a team-based model to produce desired outcomes.
  • Recommend effective and creative uses of technology to enhance instruction.
  • Engage as assigned in special projects and professional development initiatives individually or with colleagues.
  • Other similar duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Evidence of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in Canvas/LMS environments to develop online materials.
  • Experience in providing customer service.
  • Experience working closely with faculty and administrators in a higher education environment.
  • Experience developing learning materials, including job aids, online tutorials, and other instructional or learning materials using online pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and of online pedagogical approaches, practices, and tools.
  • Experience in using a variety of industry-leading technologies and products for development of course content, presentations, web pages, web applications and tutorials.
  • Experience in troubleshooting learning technology issues.
  • Experience managing multiple projects.
  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in content loading and formatting.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, or other HTML authoring tools.
  • Experience with creating accessible course materials and the WCAG 2.1 web content accessibility guidelines.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Working Environment:

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%). Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (15%).Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Evidence of effective communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
