Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Law School Instructional Design team in the Law School’s Office of Academic Affairs supports instructional design across all programs in the School of Law (J.D. and non-J.D). Instructional designers collaborate across the law school and university, working closely with Law School Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Academic Program Directors, faculty, and staff as well as with Law School Computing Services and University Office of Online Learning to provide instructional design support based on best practices in the areas of curricular and course design, technology, and related training and documentation.

Law School Instructional Designers report to the Associate Dean for Administration with accountability to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Academic Program Directors.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Consult with School of Law academic leadership and faculty to advise on, evaluate the effectiveness of, and recommend changes related to course design, technology and instruction delivery options for Law School programs. Identify current gaps and recommend process and procedure improvements as needed.
  
• Support faculty in course design/redesign including supporting rubric development, assessment, and the use of Sakai and other instructional technologies and media.
  
• Oversee the building of courses, individual course modules, and other projects in Sakai; effectively communicate across the Instructional Design team and with stakeholders about project statuses and other work deliverables; train end users.
  
• Develop and deliver faculty-focused workshops, documentation, and other resources on how to use and integrate technology and staff-focused workshops, documentation, and other resources on how to use Sakai and other instructional technology to support faculty and other co-curricular activities.
  
• Onboard new faculty and administrative staff on the use of Sakai and other instructional design tools.
  
• Collaborate with the Instructional Design Team, faculty, and staff to resolve issues related to technology use in teaching. Provide technical assistance, respond to inquiries regarding problems, questions, or errors with online teaching/learning tools, and implement corrections, as needed. Partner with Law School Computing Services and the University Office of Online Learning, as needed.
  
• Stay abreast of best practices, American Bar Association (ABA) standards, and Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements related to curriculum and course design, technology and training. Audit courses for ABAand HLC compliance and quality.
  
• Provide back-up for the other members of the Instructional Design Team.
  
• Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

Master’s degree and three to five years of experience in instructional design, instructional technology or related field required. Equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Must have demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional design best practices for web-based learning.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional, productive work relationship with law faculty and academic department colleagues.

Certificates/Credentials/Licenses

Master’s degree and three to five years of experience in instructional design, instructional technology or related field required. Equivalent combination of experience may be considered.

Computer Skills

• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies required. 
• Loyola University Chicago uses Sakai as the learning management system. 
• Familiarity and/or experience working in Sakai is strongly preferred. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and email applications. 
• Strong working knowledge of HTML, web, graphic and video design methodologies and applications, web technologies, and computer-based training software required.
