Job Description:

Join us in shaping the future of online learning at Champlain College Online as an Instructional Designer. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to apply creative insight and design expertise to craft courses that engage, inspire, and transform how students learn online.

This position requires a thoughtful designer who balances pedagogical theory with practical innovation. The ideal candidate brings proven expertise in designing learning experiences that demonstrate a strong commitment to universal design, cognitive learning principles, and accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Course Design & Development

  • Lead cross-functional course development teams, ensuring effective collaboration, resource management, and timely delivery
  • Structure content, develop assessments, and create interactive media to optimize student learning experiences
  • Identify opportunities to leverage generative AI for personalized, interactive learning experiences
  • Provide consultative support on  implementing web-based instructional technologies
  • Design evidence-based learning experiences that align with stakeholder needs and maximize effectiveness for our student population
  • Foster an innovative design culture that encourages creative solutions and continuous improvement in online course development
  • Demonstrate excellence in a fully remote work environment, maintaining strong communication and collaborative design practices while working within a distributed, high-performing team

Training & Resource Development

  • Create training materials that model best practices in online pedagogy and learning management systems
  • Develop resources that model best practices across learning technologies, digital tools, and innovative pedagogical approaches, including AI-enhanced learning strategies
  • Maintain currency with emerging technologies and best practices in online instruction

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design or Instructional Technology
  • Experience collaborating with instructors or SMEs in an educational environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design models and usability principles directly related to online learning
  • Proficiency in designing and building courses in the Canvas LMS
  • Technical proficiency in HTML, CSS, web editing tools, Microsoft Office/Google Apps (Adobe Creative Cloud experience a plus)
  • Ability to design learning assets using tools like Canva, H5P, and other multimedia authoring platforms
  • Strong project management abilities with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in team settings

Additional Information:

Working Arrangement:

  • Full-time (37.5 hours/week) fully remote position
  • Required to be available for real-time collaboration with the team during normal business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm ET)
  • Must maintain a dedicated workspace free from distractions that supports productive work and professional virtual collaboration
  • Expected to perform work within the contiguous United States (remote work from Alaska, Hawaii, or internationally is not permitted)
