The University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy seeks an experienced, innovative, and enthusiastic Instructional Technology Assistant to work within the Deans Administration’s Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs, Academic Technologies.  The instructional Technology Assistant supports the integration and effective use of educational technologies within the School of Pharmacy’s academic programs. This role serves as the first point of contact for faculty, staff, and students seeking assistance with tools such as Blackboard Ultra, ExamSoft, and Poll Everywhere. The assistant provides technical support, instructional guidance, and training to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

Primary Duties: 

  • Provide instructional technology support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students on educational technology, computer-based testing, and digital accessibility (including but not limited to Blackboard Ultra, ExamSoft, Ally, and other applications used to support instruction).
  • Assists in the development of instructional resources, professional development, online and blended learning implementation strategies, and provides consultations on technology and instructional design best practices.
  • Effectively communicates within the group on issues pertaining to the unit’s function.
  • Maintains online resources for the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs to support teaching and learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in field and/or related field, such as instructional or graphic design.

Preferred Experience: One (1) year of experience supporting educational technology, instructional design, multimedia, or online training in an academic health system or institution of higher education is preferred.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (Preferred):

  • Demonstrated expertise in the effective use of educational technologies, such as learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, etc.), audience response systems (e.g., PollEverywhere, etc.), and computer-based testing applications (e.g., ExamSoft, etc.).
  • Knowledge of accessibility compliance and copyright regulations related to digital educational content.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts, training, and support guidance to users with varying levels of experience. Demonstrates effective listening skills and can interpret verbal and non-verbal cues to promote understanding.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team while demonstrating initiative and accountability in independent work. Consistently engages in positive and professional interactions to meet customer expectation, including issue resolution and proactive follow-up.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and initiate follow-up action as necessary. Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values.

Hiring Range: $55,000 – $65,000, commensurate with education and experience.
