Your Role at a Glance

The Lead Product Designer is a full-time, exempt, role that reports to the Director of Product Management in the Technology Development department.

This position is responsible for guiding our product design practice while rolling up their sleeves to deliver exceptional user experiences. You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to champion user needs and bring clarity to complex challenges.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both thought leadership and hands-on work—an individual contributor who can also shape the future of design at our company while supporting and mentoring other designers.

This role does not carry any supervisory responsibilities.

Your Day-to-Day Contributions | Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to design efforts across multiple products and features—from discovery through delivery.
  • Mentor and collaborate with other designers, supporting their growth and development.
  • Define and elevate our design standards, introducing systems, workflows, and tools that support consistent, high-quality design.
  • Bring structure and vision to our design practice, while remaining grounded in user needs and research.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, curriculum, marketing, and customer success to ensure a seamless and impactful user experience.
  • Advocate for the user, bringing research, empathy, and data to product conversations and decisions.

Your Background and Expertise

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in UX or Product Design, including time as a senior Individual Contributor.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design across desktop, tablet, and mobile sizes when designing.
  • Experience mentoring other designers or leading design initiatives.
  • History of owning and/or evolving design systems, workflows, and standards.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, especially when managing stakeholders.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in EdTech, curriculum, or B2B SaaS.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508).
  • Experience designing for classroom use or teacher workflows.
  • Prior experience helping elevate product design in a company.
  • Skilled in both qualitative and quantitative user research.
  • Experience with using AI in the design process.
  • Demonstrated success in working in ambiguity and building structure where it doesn’t yet exist.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: An individual should have knowledge of Google Workspace. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include: Internet, email, telephone, and computers.  Ability to learn to use unfamiliar software.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  A current driver’s license and proof of auto insurance are required if driving for work.

Salary Description
Salary Based Upon $45.65 – $79.03/Hour (DOE)
