Position Title: learning management system instructional technologist

Position Summary:

This position works collaboratively with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and teaching & learning consultants to provide consultation on how to optimize Learning Management System (LMS) functionality for the design, development, and delivery of high-quality digital learning experiences. This includes creating, maintaining, and configuring digital learning materials within the LMS to support faculty using the system as part of their instructional strategy to meet learning objectives. This position also conducts faculty training and professional development sessions as needed and has a primary responsibility for maintaining the LMS tutorial collection to ensure accuracy, currency, and relevancy.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible related work experience, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Experience building content, using LMS tools to achieve course outcomes and meet identified standards, and supporting faculty in their use of an LMS as part of their instructional strategy.
  • Technically astute with demonstrated application and knowledge of LMS and related technologies, with the ability to research and resolve complex issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective course design principles within the LMS.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data for end-user support, troubleshooting, and tutorial/documentation development.
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication, organizational, time management, critical-thinking, and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage work effectively, prioritize multiple projects, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree, preferably in educational/instructional technology, instructional design, or higher education administration.
  • Experience with embedding digital content or other multimedia artifacts and integrating publisher/vendor tools into digital learning experiences.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with academic and student learning processes and conducting engaging faculty professional development activities leading to enhanced knowledge and skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides support to faculty on the learning management system (LMS) (e.g., Blackboard) features, functions, and tools to lend technical expertise on how to effectively leverage and utilize the LMS to develop, design, and deliver high-quality instructional content to achieve course objectives and outcomes to enhance student learning.
  • Consults with faculty about using technology, multimedia, and learning systems to improve teaching and learning within the LMS.
  • Researches, evaluates, and assesses the latest technology, learning media, and learning system best practices to aid in course development, design, and delivery.
  • Assists with course updates to ensure content reflects current design standards, terminology, and technologies.
  • Facilitates the development and delivery of training opportunities to enhance the knowledge, skills, and competencies of faculty in their use of the LMS.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
