Salary Range: Up to $48,000 annualized, commensurate with education, experience and qualifications.

Essential Functions

Job Summary

The Program Coordinator supports the implementation and continuous improvement of the Dr. Manuel P. Berriozábal Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP). This position coordinates professional development, curriculum support, instructional materials logistics, and recruitment activities, contributing to the success of all PREP programming across the year and at multiple sites. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of K-12 STEM education, instructional best practices, and effective training delivery methods.

This is a grant-funded position dependent on availability of funds and departmental need. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and assists with the recruitment of students for the PREP program.
  • Assists with the recruitment and onboarding of instructional staff for the summer programming.
  • Develops and delivers in-person professional development sessions and online training modules for instructional staff, including orientation, content training, and ongoing coaching.
  • Updates and manages training modules and instructional resources using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Supports curriculum management by reviewing and revising instructional documentation, aligning content with TEA standards, and maintaining consistency across all PREP sites.
  • Maintains and updates curriculum materials lists, kit packaging instructions, and lab setup guidelines in coordination with the inventory team.
  • Participates in the preparation, assembly, and distribution of instructional materials for use at multiple PREP campuses.
  • Collaborates with site leads, instructors, and program leadership to monitor curriculum implementation and ensure instructional quality.
  • Conducts classroom observations, provide constructive feedback, and support instructors with implementing inquiry-based and active learning strategies across all PREP sites.
  • Serves as a curriculum and instructional technology resource for PREP staff, including troubleshooting Canvas and other educational tools.
  • Contributes to data collection and reporting related to curriculum implementation and professional development effectiveness.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM field, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related Interdisciplinary fields.
  • Valid Texas teaching certification in Science (Grades 6-12) or CTE (Grades 6-12).
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience in a 6 – 12 setting, preferably in a STEM discipline.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in STEM, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of K-12 classroom teaching experience, with demonstrated leadership in curriculum or instructional coaching.
  • Experience with STEM engagement programs, summer bridge programs, or out-of-school learning environments.
  • Completion of an Engineering Education Graduate Certificate or coursework in engineering education.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written communication). 
  • Experience in planning and delivering professional development to K-12 educators.
  • Experience developing STEM curriculum.
  • Experience using learning management systems, including Canvas, and integrating instructional technology. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of STEM curriculum and instructional design.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective professional development.
  • Experience using Canvas LMS or similar online learning platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Office and classroom environments across multiple PREP sites.
  • Requires use computing equipment, telephone, and multimedia tools.
  • Ability to travel to and from PREP campus sites required.  
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.
  • Must be available for full-time, on-site work from May 1 – July 31 annually (no scheduled vacation during this time).
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • This is a grant-funded, full-time, on-site position at our UTSA campuses. The Program Coordinator will work designated days at the UTSA Downtown campus and designated days at the UTSA Main campus. 

Physical Demands:    

  • Frequent use of computers and instructional materials handling.
  • Sedentary work with occasional walking, standing, and lifting of up to 25 – 50 lbs.
  • Regular walking across campus during the summer program and exposure to outdoor summer weather conditions.
  • Exerts up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
