Description

The Senior Content Developer is responsible for creating original eLearning and other materials for Tooling U-SME’s training library, working directly with customers and partners, and supporting department operations.  The Senior Content Developer has excellent research, project management, and eLearning development skills and possesses a broad working knowledge of manufacturing. They use adult learning principles and innovative strategies in the conception, design, and development of eLearning and may work directly with clients and industry partners on customized training. Along with developing training, the Senior Content Developer plays a key role in product quality and direction by reviewing and editing the in-process work of other designers, leading internal continuous improvement projects, and identifying ways to advance existing content and processes.

Major Functions:

  •  Edit storyboards and in-process work of other team members to improve the instructional design and ensure that the content meets quality standards.
  •  Conduct research on manufacturing and engineering subjects using information from a variety of sources such as textbooks, trade articles, and online sources.
  • Create detailed storyboards that include clear, approachable written content and ideas for engaging multimedia.  
  • Create new eLearning and other training materials on advanced and emerging subjects.
  • Lead project teams working directly with clients and manufacturing partners to develop custom training materials.
  • Consult Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and project stakeholders to gather information and validate training material. 
  • Collaborate with multimedia artists on the design of original illustrations, animations, and other visuals that drive learner engagement. Create specifications and provide references for multimedia artists. 
  • Source digital photographs and use photo-editing software to edit and enhance them according to style standards.  
  • Create supplemental content such as test questions, vocabulary terms, assessments, and guides. 
  • Use authoring tools and learning technologies to design and format eLearning courses and other training materials. 
  • Demonstrate project management skills and use project management programs to collaborate, track tasks, and meet development timelines.
  • Conduct onboarding of new hires and support the development of other designers.
  • Take an active role in supporting team production goals, including monitoring the workflow and timelines of other team members.
  • Take an active role in internal training and continuous improvement projects, including developing and maintaining internal SOPs and style guides.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Education, skills and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, Instructional Design or related field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in eLearning and instructional design.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design principles.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, visual, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, balance multiple projects, and support others.
  • Experience using collaborative project management tools and software.
  • Proficient in eLearning authoring tools and development workflow.
  • Experience developing training on manufacturing, engineering, or scientific topics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends, needs, and expectations.
  • Experience developing training for a variety of formats preferred.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, copyright, and principles for creating and disseminating digital training content.

The salary range for this position is $57,970 – $72,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications. Offers typically fall within this range based on individual qualifications and budget availability. In addition to base salary, SME offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403(b) with company matching, generous paid time off and holidays, professional development and training opportunities, and additional wellness and work-life balance benefits. Certain positions may also be eligible for bonus/incentive compensation, subject to role and company policies.
