Description  

This position is primarily remote. Candidates who live within 50 miles of Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Seattle, WA; Indianapolis, IN; Columbus, OH; or Plano, TX will follow a hybrid schedule, coming into the office two days per week.

The Liberty Mutual Staff Legal organization is seeking a Senior Instructional Design Specialist to support all knowledge management, training, and development activities in alignment with business goals. This role will design, develop, and deliver technical and professional development training programs that cross organizational levels and roles. This individual contributor role will report to Staff Legal Training & Knowledge Management Director.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in devising effective learning and training strategies through needs analysis and gap analysis to enable high performance.
  • Knowledge and application of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, legal tactics knowledge in the creation of new or modification of existing content.
  • Identify subject matter experts and prepare them to deliver assigned content. May also facilitate components of training programs (% of delivery will vary based on structure/content of program). 
  • Identify role-relevant development programs and resources, and the appropriate sequence by which they are best utilized including the communication, implementation, and evaluation of such programs. 
  • Evaluate existing content and determine knowledge vs. training, modify content as needed and deploy to the proper user channel.
  • Ensure resources, tools, and program content are available to support job performance and integrated into knowledge management platform.
  • May have budgetary responsibilities related to training programs. 
  • Maintain working knowledge of Staff Legal roles, processes, and business priorities.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of the target audience, including size, job responsibilities, key business challenges, changes in role expectations, typical career paths, etc.
  • Summarize and report evaluation findings to senior management and HR and make recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

Please Note: This is a range posting. The actual internal level/grade and compensation for this role will depend on the candidate’s geographic location, overall experience and skill level. 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in addition to 5+ years of learning design experience that includes leading and maintaining organization-wide learning programs; Master’s degree in Instructional Design or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience includes working with complex content and designing learning for multiple delivery modalities (traditional classroom, online virtual classroom, and self-paced e-Learning modules).
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and can write for a variety of audiences (e.g., leadership, managers, employees).
  • Demonstrates excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Broad knowledge of instructional technologies and is thoroughly proficient in the advanced use of e-Learning authoring tools to create courses, video, animation, graphics, and narration.
