All4Ed’s Policy Development and Government Relations team focuses on federal and state policies and reforms that enable more students, particularly those of color and those from low-income families, to graduate from high school prepared for success in postsecondary education and beyond. These efforts are complemented by the work of our Future Ready Schools (FRS) network, which works with leaders representing over 3,000 school districts, in supporting district policy and practice change. Grounded in a comprehensive, research-based framework, FRS helps school and district administrators build leadership capacity and improve learning opportunities, particularly for students from marginalized backgrounds. Bridging—and building upon—these long-standing bodies of work, All4Ed also provides technical assistance and strategic advising to the education-to-career pathways field. Our team’s field-recognized subject matter expertise in pathways spans work with federal, state, and local government agencies; K-12 and higher education institutions and systems; intermediary organizations; workforce and economic development entities; business and industry partners; and community-based organizations.

Position Summary

The incumbent will be a contributing member of a dynamic, cross-organizational team at All4Ed committed to transforming systems to build strong, equity-centered pathways with no dead ends or wrong doors. The Associate Director/Director will work in collaboration with All4Ed staff and external partners to lead and support projects that provide strategic support, advising, and evidence-based technical assistance for state, regional, and local leaders—representing fields such as K-12 and postsecondary education, workforce development, state and local government, business and industry, intermediaries, and community-based organizations—to design, strengthen, and scale innovative solutions in the pathways field (learn more here).

The seniority of the role will be based on All4Ed’s assessment of the depth of the candidate’s experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The principal duties and responsibilities of this position focus on developing strategies, providing technical assistance, building partnerships, and managing relationships to advance All4Ed’s mission. In this role, you will:

• Design and provide direct technical assistance and strategic advising to leaders in state and local government, K-12 and postsecondary education, business and industry, intermediaries, and workforce and economic development in alignment with All4Ed’s pathways services and key strategies (e.g., pathways system design; career and technical education (CTE); dual enrollment, work-based learning, intermediary development, and education and career navigation)
• Develop and lead complex projects from concept through implementation, ensuring on-time completion of deliverables, including managing timelines, budgets, work plans, program staff, and partners
• Work with potential partners and funders and manage relationships with existing partners and funders, collaborating with All4Ed colleagues to build out, refine, and advance All4Ed’s work in new places and content areas
• Understand and respond to the challenges that pathways leaders and systems face and respond by conceptualizing and developing tools, resources, and strategies to effectively solve problems and eliminate barriers to progress
• Represent All4Ed with external constituents, including institutional and system leaders, partner organizations, and other stakeholders
• Facilitate and lead small and large group meetings and events, trainings, and presentations for diverse stakeholders
• Manage and support project teams and initiatives to meet goals, modeling inclusive leadership
• Research, write, and publish high-quality blogs, briefs, and analytic papers on key topics of interest to the field, influencing policy and practice
• Contribute to the writing, review, and editing of proposals and external reports

Qualifications and Characteristics

• You have at least 8 years of progressive leadership experience related to designing and providing technical assistance in the pathways field to cross-sector, state- and local-level stakeholders, including supporting collaboration across K-12 and postsecondary education, intermediaries, workforce and economic development, and community-based organizations
• You have experience working in workforce development and/or postsecondary institutions or systems
• You have expertise in pathways strategies and core elements of them, including CTE, dual enrollment, work-based learning, industry/employer engagement, and education and career navigation
• You have a track record of success with project planning and implementation of multiple projects with competing priorities, while working both autonomously and collaboratively
• You are skilled at navigating the complexities of supporting and managing cross-sector stakeholder groups and partnerships at the local, regional, and state levels
• You have demonstrated success advising senior leaders and decision makers (internally and externally) and are inspired to build coalitions and consensus to bridge competing priorities and drive progress
• You are flexible and comfortable with navigating ambiguity, leading without formal authority, and adapting your priorities when a new strategic opportunity demands it
• You possess strong strategic and critical thinking skills and an interest in systems-level design and integration
• You have managed teams and are committed to providing direct, actionable feedback to support the team’s success
• You have experience in the successful development of service lines, technical assistance approaches, and/or products (such as tools and resources) that meet a variety of partners’ needs
• You are a synthesizer of complex information and can communicate it crisply and directly to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You are equally happy being out front presenting to 200 people and setting up someone else to do so successfully
• You possess excellent research and writing skills, including experience generating reports, proposals, tools, and resources
• You demonstrate a growth mindset and desire to continuously improve in your work

Location

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., All4Ed is a fully remote organization, and we trust and value our team to collaboratively produce excellent work, contribute to a positive and supportive work culture, and meet our mission. This position will require travel (up to 30%) for periodic organizational and team meetings, conferences, and for targeted project-related work in the field.
