Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The mission of the School of Nursing is to enhance and improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina and the nation, and, as relevant and appropriate, the people of other nations, through its programs of education, research, and scholarship, and through clinical practice and community service. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master’s degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated BSN option to students with college degrees. Position Summary
The position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (ADITL) within the Office of Academic Affairs, the instructional designer is responsible for assisting faculty and teaching staff in developing course materials and activities, identifying instructional needs for classroom, web-based, mobile, and online learning, and creating assessments. The instructional designer will partner with faculty to brainstorm, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative and pedagogically sound instructional solutions. This individual will assist with curricular processes related to technological innovation across all School of Nursing education programs, including pre-licensure, MSN, DNP, and PhD programs, ensuring that all curricula align with the defined program outcomes. The instructional designer will research and recommend continuous quality improvements for teaching methods that facilitate and encourage student interaction and engagement, as well as contribute to learning assessments, metrics, and outcomes. The instructional designer will work closely with the ADITL and members of the Informational and Instructional Technologies (IIT) team.
This position requires a highly motivated, organized, and independent self-starter who is curious, creative, and willing to take initiative in implementing innovative instructional strategies within a collaborative and team-oriented environment. This individual must be a creative thinker who can transcend current practices and build opportunities to advocate change, support, and communicate effectively with faculty while working in a diverse and cross-functional environment. This person must possess excellent presentation, written, and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to the development or administration of academic standards or curricula, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
