Brief Description of Duties:

Stony Brook University, located on beautiful Long Island, NY, seeks an enthusiastic and experienced educator that has a passion for working with teaching assistants, postdocs, and instructors as they begin teaching on the university level. This position will provide pedagogical support for graduate students, undergraduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and faculty through consultation and dissemination of relevant instructional techniques and technologies. The position will provide academic instructional design consulting, guidance and support to faculty and TA’s, and will collaborate with content developers and other instructional designers, technologists, and specialists for the consistent delivery of exemplary courses.

The successful incumbent will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong project management, organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving. 

  • Design, develop, and implement programming for faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and other postdoctoral fellows. These should encompass learning objectives, active learning strategies, assessment methods, accessibility, use of technology in the classroom and other topics related to University teaching.     
  • Provide consultations with faculty and graduate students around pedagogy, teaching, technology, and assessment.
  • Liaise with faculty and academic departments to develop targeted instruction and support. Work collaboratively with technical experts, media specialists, assessment specialists, accessibility specialists and others to enable instructors to implement quality improvement in their courses and advance student learning.   
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation activities in collaboration with faculty, staff and for the work of the Center.
  • Professional Development and Responsibilities – Engage in professional development to stay abreast of learning theories, pedagogical, and technological developments.
  • Research current trends and developments in instructional design and innovative teaching strategies. Participate in local, state, regional and national professional associations, conferences and committees as appropriate.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.​

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee’s base salary, this position is eligible for $4000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
