Position Summary

The Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist works with the Associate Director of Teaching, Learning and Assessment to design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive assessment support, professional development programming, and instructional coaching services that advance the mission of the Office of Academic Innovation (OAI).

The Assessment and Pedagogy Specialist also develops high-quality pedagogical and assessment content for OAI’s resource hub, OAI+. Through evidence-based approaches and utilizing research-informed best practices, this position collaborates with individuals, departments, and programs across campus to enhance teaching effectiveness, support measurable pedagogical improvements, and foster a culture that prioritizes student success through equitable and inclusive educational practices. This work involves presence in the OAI office space, face-to-face interaction with supervisors, OAI staff, team members and faculty.

In accordance with the AAUP collective bargaining agreement this position is open only to current PSU AAUP academic professionals. Article 17 Section 11 refers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 4 years of higher education experience in program assessment, faculty development, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment design, implementation, and analysis
  • Experience teaching in K-12 or post-secondary contexts
  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching and learning practices
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in education, higher education administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in program assessment, faculty development, or instructional design
  • Experience managing comprehensive higher education professional development programs
  • Teaching experience in post-secondary contexts
  • Demonstrated experience with assessment methodologies and data analysis
  • Experience with classroom observation protocols and instructional coaching
  • Knowledge of inclusive pedagogy, equity-minded practices, and culturally-sustaining pedagogy
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in post-secondary settings
  • Experience working with diverse faculty populations
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse organizational settings

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual salary for this position will be between $66,696 and $73,224, but may be negotiated above this range dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Typical office environment with computer terminals, printers, multi-line telephones, fax machines, copy machines, etc.;
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, lift, push, and carry items;
  • Repetitive hand/wrist/arm movements on a computer keyboard;
  • Sitting for long periods of time in front of a computer terminal;
  • Mobility to attend meeting and activities which are scheduled campus-wide;
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • This is an on campus position. Upon successful completion of the trial service period, the supervisor may permit up to one day remote work per week.
