Technical Business Analyst SME & Instructor (Contract)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Technical Business Analyst (BA) Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Instructor to support the design and delivery of a hands-on training program for the City of Charlotte.
This role is ideal for a senior-level BA who can bridge real-world enterprise experience with instructional delivery, helping learners build practical, job-ready skills.
The engagement includes two phases:
- Curriculum Development & Refinement
- Course Instruction & Delivery
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Development (May 4 – June 22 | 10–15 hrs/week)
- Collaborate with internal teams to refine course syllabus and lesson plans
- Provide subject matter expertise across core BA competencies
- Review and QA curriculum content for accuracy and real-world applicability
- Translate practical BA experience into engaging learning materials and exercises
- Participate in weekly stakeholder meetings (approx. 1 hour/week)
Instruction & Delivery (Starting June 22 | ~20 hrs/week)
- Deliver a 5-week course (1 in-person session per week)
- Facilitate engaging lectures and hands-on lab sessions
- Guide learners through real-world BA scenarios and exercises
- Provide feedback, coaching, and support outside of class hours as needed
Course Schedule (Delivery Phase)
- Duration: 5 weeks
- In-Person Day: Mondays or Tuesdays (TBD)
- Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Location: Charlotte, NC
Required Experience & Qualifications
Technical Business Analysis Expertise
- Hands-on experience as a Technical or IT Business Analyst in enterprise environments
- Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum and SDLC methodologies
- Experience with:
- Requirements elicitation (user stories, use cases)
- Process modeling and scope definition
- Data analysis and data modeling
- Interface analysis
- QA fundamentals and UAT support
Tools & Practices
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and wireframing tools
- Experience working across cross-functional technical teams
Instructional & Consulting Skills
- Experience supporting training, teaching, or instructional design (formal or informal)
- Ability to translate complex concepts into clear, practical learning experiences
- Strong stakeholder communication and facilitation skills
- Consulting mindset when engaging with clients and learners
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Senior-level BA with both industry and instructional experience
- Comfortable leading discussions and facilitating adult learners
- Able to connect theory to real-world application
- Based in or able to travel to Charlotte, NC weekly
