Job Summary

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Instructional Design Specialist to join our team of professionals.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for assisting in transforming content into instructionally sound, interactive learning materials using a variety of instructional technologies, while providing recommendations on all aspects of the instructional design process to ensure alignment with Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM)’s educational quality initiatives and overall institutional goals.
  • Maintains strong collaborative relationships with HWCOM faculty, serving as a source of information and guidance on best practices in instructional design, HWCOM initiatives, and central FIU initiatives. Responds promptly to faculty and curriculum support staff requests, efficiently resolving all course maintenance issues as per the service level agreement.
  • Maintains proficiency in media design and creation, mastering LMS tools and associated educational technologies. Support the creation and design of content for instructional materials and special projects, ensuring high-quality content delivery and supporting faculty with innovative teaching practices including creating and maintaining instructional materials in various formats such as print, web, and video.
  • Collaborates with Instructional Designers to perform regular course development, maintenance, training, and troubleshooting of instructional tools and applications.
  • Ensures all course modifications adhere to established quality design standards and works closely with faculty during the development of CanvasMed course shells. Manages workflow processes related to instructional design and maintains project management tools to enhance the design operations and course maintenance.
  • Provides ongoing instructional design support to HWCOM faculty and staff by maintaining and enhancing a portfolio of existing courses and assisting in the creation and development of instructional materials and multimedia, such as videos, infographics, flyers, and training guides.
  • Creates and performs timely updates to requests via the HWCOM ticketing system.
  • Assists in identifying improvements for ongoing content development processes, documentation, and system and tools to ensure high quality content is delivered in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and one (1) year of experience; OR five (5) years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to establish and prioritize deadlines.
  • Experience with developing content for online courses.
  • Skilled in utilizing project management software.
