Job Overview
The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) is GW’s intellectual and creative backbone—a place where research thrives, critical thinking is encouraged, collaboration is constant and real-world training goes hand-in-hand with learning. As part of our mission, we seek an instructional designer who will be embedded within the Center for Teaching Excellence working with the Online Education Group to assist in the development of excellent online courses and programs to be offered in the college.
The George Washington University Center for Teaching Excellence, a part of the University Libraries and Academic Innovation (LAI), partners with faculty and staff to facilitate course design and enhance teaching. In furtherance of our CCAS and LAI missions, the person hired for this position will possess a high degree of knowledge about instructional design theories, the rapidly improving understanding of human learning, and advances in hardware and software that can be used to improve teaching and learning as well as the production of modern online media, e.g., video recording.
This position reports directly to the Vice Dean for Programs and Operations in the Columbian College but works under the Director of Online Education in the Center for Teaching Excellence within LAI in support of online education work for courses offered by the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. The person in this position works with other instructional designers and multimedia producers to support faculty development of online courses. The position has no direct reports. Working in tandem with faculty, the Instructional Designer hired for this position will apply knowledge of learning science and instructional design models to design and develop high-quality learning experiences for students.
