Lead Learning Experience Designer (Fractional/Contract)

Audacious LabsContractRemoteUnited States

You’ll do two different jobs depending on where a project sits.

Before production starts, you support the Learning Experience Architect. They lead behavioral audits, sales-cycle consulting, and client relationships — you help them move faster by running our Project Blueprint workflow, drafting sections for their review, and building out the asset punch list.

Once a project moves into production, you take the lead — and you’re hands-on, not just reviewing. You build deliverables yourself alongside our team of learning experience designers, graphic designers, and course builders, review their work against the approved blueprint, and manage priorities across whatever’s live. You hold the quality standard and definition of done for every deliverable the client sees after the blueprint is complete. The Learning Experience Architect stays informed. They’re not in the day-to-day.

What you’ll own

  • Hands-on production work — building deliverables yourself, not just reviewing someone else’s
  • Quality standard and definition of done for every client-facing deliverable produced after the blueprint stage
  • Deliverable review across the production team — learning experience designers, graphic designers, and course builders — against the approved Project Blueprint
  • Task delegation and prioritization across the production team
  • Flagging the Learning Experience Architect in when something needs their judgment, not just their sign-off
  • Day-to-day client communication during production

What we’re looking for

  • Course design experience across multiple concurrent projects, not just one course at a time
  • Experience with, or active engagement in, the science of behavior change and habit formation
  • A belief that most digital learning being produced right now doesn’t actually change behavior, and a want to work on changing that
  • A track record of managing or mentoring a junior LXD
  • Strong client communication skills, with experience managing clients across industries, time zones, and personalities
  • Comfort working inside a structured, AI-assisted workflow — if you want to build from scratch every time, this isn’t the role
  • Sharp judgment on the difference between a decision you can make and one you need to escalate, and no waiting a week to figure out which
  • Ability to work async with a team in different time zones, with minimal live oversight

Nice to have

  • Direct exposure to behavior-change research (Fogg, Duhigg, or similar)
  • Prior experience in a fractional or multi-client contract role
  • Experience working inside a small, systems-heavy team rather than a large agency structure
