Job Description

As the LMS Administrator, you’ll be the driving force behind the learning platform that serves thousands of employees across The Salvation Army Central Territory. From system administration and training to analytics and innovation, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our learning ecosystem is reliable, engaging, and ready for the future.

Compensation Range: $97,705 to $122,131/annually, based on experience

Job Objective: 

This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, integrity, and strategic optimization of the learning infrastructure that supports approximately 30,000 users annually. The administrator collaborates with cross-functional internal teams, instructors, and vendors to optimize the platform in alignment with organizational learning, compliance, and business objectives.

This role governs how the Learning Management System (LMS) functions, is maintained, and evolves by establishing standards, ensuring compliance readiness, and enabling a consistent, high-quality learning experience across the territory.

 

Essential Job Functions:

System Administration & Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for LMS technical support, promptly troubleshooting user issues.
  • Establish and enforce standards for system configuration, content governance, reporting, user access, and security protocols.
  • Anticipate future needs, including regulatory changes, system upgrades, and organizational growth, and proactively prepare the LMS to support them.
  • Ensure response times of fewer than two business days and deliver consistent, reliable service for employees and field administrators.

Content & Course Management

  • Upload, organize, and maintain e-learning content, ensuring compatibility with SCORM and xAPI standards.
  • Support course creators in designing and publishing courses, learning paths, and assessments.
  • Archive outdated content and ensure the LMS reflects current training requirements.

Training

  • Conduct regular instructor led training sessions for staff and learners on LMS functionality.
  • Create and maintain on demand training sessions on LMS functionality.
  • Coach and support content developers on effective course design and best practices.
  • Lead weekly office hours for the field.

Project Management

  • Lead or support LMS-related projects, including new feature implementation and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with IT, HR, and cross-functional Learning & Development teams to align LMS capabilities with organizational goals.
  • Strengthen the learning ecosystem by replacing ad hoc troubleshooting with structured, strategic ownership.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Generate and analyze reports on course completions, learner progress, and LMS usage.
  • Provide actionable insights to improve training effectiveness and compliance tracking.
  • Safeguard compliance workflows during system updates, integrations, or configuration changes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Education Technology, Instructional Design / Learning & Development or related field (or equivalent experience)

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of experience with LMS platforms (e.g., Litmos, Canvas, Blackboard)

OR – Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reporting, and tracking learning metrics
  • Familiarity with SCORM/xAPI standards and data privacy regulations
  • Experience in instructional design or e-learning content development
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS for LMS customization

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None 

Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements may include speaking, hearing, and vision ability, and fine manual dexterity to communicate effectively, participate in meetings, conduct training sessions, operate a computer, and perform detailed data entry and system configuration tasks.

Travel:

  • 2-3 times a year for travel within the division (11 midwestern states) lasting 2-3 days on average.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a typical office environment. 
  • May require some weekend and evening work.
