Description 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking an Instructional Design Specialist Senior.  This Senior Instructional Designer is part of a team of designers and others who help faculty create excellent learning experiences for students in online, f2f, and hybrid courses across campus. Beyond knowing best practices for general teaching and learning, the Senior Instructional Designer needs a deep understanding of best practices for building and teaching online courses along with sufficient technical skills to accomplish those goals.

Under general supervision, consults with department faculty and staff and provides recommendations for instructional materials. Researches and evaluates department educational and training requirements. May provide technical and/or editorial review for development and implementation of interactive websites. Conducts focus groups, reviews facilities, monitors professional publications, interviews subject matter experts and recommends instructional strategies. Designs materials, prepares and writes scripts for videotapes, slide presentations, self-instruction and on-line instructional materials. Designs and writes promotional materials. Assists medical faculty in preparing lectures and presentations. May coordinate assignments contracted to outside consultants. May write and edit articles for professional publications. May have some supervisory responsibility.  

(Annual Salary:  $55,180  –  $89,670)

Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree in a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Master’s degree or PhD is highly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have strong skills in creating accessible digital content and understanding of ADA/Title II requirements. College level teaching experience desired.  Strong workshop and presentation skills preferred.
