Job Description

Virginia Wesleyan University seeks a creative and solution-oriented Instructional Technologist who will train, guide, and support faculty in using software and tools to enhance instruction and evaluation. 

The Instructional Technologist is primarily responsible for evaluating, implementing, and managing learning technologies, including Blackboard, the University LMS, and various other teaching and learning software solutions. Additionally, the Instructional Technologist is the primary point of contact for faculty in regard to the LMS and other learning and campus technologies. 

The Instructional Technologist investigates, reviews, and recommends emerging technologies and innovative educational strategies to the faculty. They facilitate the implementation of technology into the classroom by offering training, workshops, and one on one appointments with faculty.

Working with the Director of VWU Online, the Instructional Technologist maintains master content for online courses, works with faculty to update the content as necessary, and deploys courses to be taught each semester. 

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in instructional technology, instructional design, or a related field preferred
  • Familiarity and experience with digital tools for teaching and learning
  • Previous employment in higher education preferred
  • Experience managing Blackboard systems
  • Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Capacity to engage cordially and sensitively with a wide variety of people
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to take initiative, to work without supervision, and to serve collaboratively in a team environment
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate special events during some evenings and weekends
