Instructional Designer

Non Bargaining                                                  

Exempt

Vermont State University Online seeks Instructional Designer(s) to develop online source courses on a per‑course basis. Multiple individuals may be hired from this posting. Contracts will be offered as temporary work assignments of varying duration(s). 

Key responsibilities:  

  • Design identified source courses in Canvas using the approved VTSU Online Canvas template that adhere to the VTSU Online Standards and program requirements.
  • Ensure all course materials and learning activities meet accessibility requirements, including WCAG 2.1 AA and other regulatory compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to design and deliver effective and engaging online learning experiences; apply evidence-based instructional design theories and methods in course development.
  • Follow the agreed‑upon development timeline and complete revisions during the defined revision period based on VTSU feedback.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the Assistant Vice President of Online Program Administration (or designee).
  • Acknowledge that all work is confidential and proprietary to VTSU and that all course materials are owned by VTSU.

 Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:  

  • Strong knowledge of online learning principles, learning theories, and instructional design best practices.
  • Must be familiar with identified discipline for the course(s) to shape academic content and programmatic assessment requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in adult learning theory and its application in online learning environments.
  • Excellent communicator and collaborator

 Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills can be derived
  • 8 years online teaching experience in higher education

Compensation – $1000 per credit 

Location – Hybrid
