The Director of Technology Effectiveness and Training provides strategic leadership to strengthen faculty and staff capacity in the effective use of non-academic administrative and operational technologies that support institutional operations, student success, and daily work across the college. Through a coordinated, college-wide approach to training, guidance, and adoption support, the role promotes consistency, confidence, and shared understanding in the use of technology across the institution. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Information Officer, the Director leads technology training, adoption, and user support initiatives to maximize the effectiveness of technology investments and align their use with institutional goals.

Technology Training and Professional Development

  • Design, implement, and lead a comprehensive college-wide professional development program focused on effective use of administrative and enterprise technologies
  • Develop and deliver training through workshops, classes, guided practice sessions, open labs, and small-group coaching for employees with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Create structured training pathways for CUNY and campus technologies, including Microsoft 365 applications, Teams, Zoom, Webex, EAB Navigate360, and related platforms.
  • Promote effective technology use in remote and hybrid work environments, including collaboration tools, workflow coordination, virtual meetings, and shared document management.
  • Apply adult learning principles and accessible instructional practices to support ongoing technology literacy and continuous learning.
  • Lead AI readiness initiatives by developing training, guidance, and frameworks for the responsible, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and maintain college-wide standards, best practices, user documentation, and guidance related to technology use, accessibility, security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Coordinate and monitor required technology-related compliance and safety training; maintain records and prepare compliance reports as required.

In addition to the CUNY Overview duties, responsibilities include:

Information Technology Applications and Platforms

  • Support the implementation, adoption, and effective use of enterprise and administrative technologies across the College.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments to identify operational needs, improve workflows, assess training needs, and enhance user experience.
  • Provide functional support and adoption strategies for systems including EAB Navigate360, Technolutions Slate, Workday, CUNYfirst, CUNYBuy, eProcurement systems, P-card systems, Microsoft 365, Teams, Zoom, and related platforms.
  • Develop user resources, implement support materials, and process documentation to improve consistency and service effectiveness.
  • Leverage AI tools, AI agents, and large language models to support training development, operational analysis, strategic planning, and data-informed decision-making in alignment with institutional policies and CUNY standards.
  • Translate technical concepts into practical, user-friendly guidance that supports efficient operations and high-quality service delivery.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the College to advance institutional priorities and improve the faculty, staff, and student experience.
  • Manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously while maintaining strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Support occasional nonstandard business hours including evenings and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of related experience required, or Master’s degree and six (6) years of related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) or more years of experience designing, coordinating professional development training for faculty, and staff in a higher education environment.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in information technology leadership roles within higher education
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in establishing priorities, managing multiple projects, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to take the initiative to make decisions, resolve problems and work effectively with all levels of faculty and staff constituents, and foster a cooperative/collaborative work environment.
  • Customer service orientation and attention to details are essential along with excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience managing and/or providing guidance in EAB Navigate360, Technolutions Slate, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office applications, Dropbox, OneDrive, Zoom, or similar applications.
  • Designed, coordinated, or managed projects that leverage AI for analysis, data collection, or similar for business purposes.
  • Effective communication, facilitation, project management, and relationship building skills, as well as the ability to translate technology into practical, accessible guidance that supports effective work and quality service to students.
  • Ability to collaborate across academic and administrative units to advance institutional priorities and improve the faculty, staff, and student experience.

CUNY Title Overview

Oversees a College instructional technology facility, multimedia center, research technology unit, or related area

  • Provides expertise in a variety of technologies and equipment used to support academic instruction and/or research
  • Ensures quality customer service to all clients, particularly faculty and staff
  • Develops and executes long-term technology plans and manages acquisition of appropriate equipment and services
  • Oversees installation, maintenance, and repairs of technical equipment
  • Evaluates usage, capacity, systems performance, and security considerations, and implements upgrades as required
  • Establishes operation and maintenance routines, manage day-to-day technical operations, and oversees assigned staff
  • May serve as Deputy to a Chief Information Officer or other technology executive
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Compensation And Benefits

$ 113,982 – $131,440.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
