Position Description
Are you detailed, meticulous and process oriented? Are you interested in learning how to create effective materials to help others learn? If so, Seattle Public Utilities, has a wonderful internship opportunity within our Training and Development (T&D) team to learn about instructional design and material creation. The intern will work closely with experts to assist with the development and maintenance of learning content and resources.
Internship learning objectives include but are not limited to:
- Understand how to create learning content for supervisors
- Develop valuable communication and problem-solving skills
- Learn how to work collaboratively in on a professional team environment
- Develop hands-on skills using various software for e-learning
- Gain an understanding of project management skills
There is currently one (1) internship opportunity available.
The duration of this internship is expected to last up to two (2) years or graduation, whichever comes first.
We require a minimum 1-year commitment for this internship.

Job Responsibilities
The intern will work closely with Training and Development professionals to:
- Help with the development of job aides and quick reference guides for SPU’s Safety and Supervisor Training Programs.
- Assist in the creation of graphics (i.e. process maps, charts…etc.) and videos for training materials.
- Assist with formatting and retrieving survey results.
- Provide support in developing supervisor training and safety content.
- Support Instructional Designer with updating online training courses.

Qualifications
Education:
- Must be an undergraduate level student pursuing a degree in English, Education, Design, Computer Science, Communications, Instructional Design, Educational Technology or other related field.
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled on either a part-time or full-time basis and maintain a 2.0 GPA for the duration of the internship.
Exception: Students are not required to be enrolled during the summer sessions but must provide documentation of continued Fall enrollment at end of Spring quarter.
Additional Information
Hours: During school sessions, work hours will be scheduled to complement class schedules (15-20 hours per week). The internship opportunity may permit up to 40 hours per week during breaks and summer months. Work is normally between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.

Salary Information:
- The full salary range for this position is: $22.56 – $22.56 per hour.

These internships allow for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. During breaks, interns may work up to 40 hours per week and will be required to come into the office twice a week. However, while school is in session, individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
