The Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan is seeking a Learning Designer who can work in a multi-disciplinary team to bring to life course and program strategies, stories and ideas. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in the science of learning and learning design. You will report to and work closely with the Learning Design Manager, Office of Digital Education to create and incubate a collection of new, exciting, and ground-breaking digital offerings.

Responsibilities*

Faculty Collaboration and Support (70%)

  • Collaborate with Ross faculty to create new digital courses and programs
  • Redesign existing courses for effective delivery in digital learning environments
  • Develop lesson plans with faculty that apply learning science principles and align with Ross’ digital Assurance of Learning standards.
  • Translate faculty research and subject-matter expertise into engaging digital learning assets.

General Learning Strategy, Content Development (30%)

  • Collaborate with the Learning Design Manager to execute a digital education strategy that aligns with the strategic priorities of the school, best practices in digital accessibility, and adult learning theories.
  • Apply research and evidence-based practices from the Office of Digital Education to the development of curricular and co-curricular courses, resources, and tools.
  • Design educational templates and digital learning content for learners and audiences around the world.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in a relevant industry
  • Demonstrated experience in concept ideation, design, and delivery
  • Demonstrated experience of higher education environment
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in project management including successful launch and implementation of new initiatives
  • Demonstrated initiative, independent judgment, diplomacy, and service-oriented attitude
  • Strong commitment to teamwork, problem solving, and the ability to act independently
  • Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage workload under time constraints and conflicting demands
  • Ability to work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment

Modes of Work

Additional Information

Salary Information: 

The posting range for this position is $59,000 to $72,700. Salary offers are determined based on several factors, including a candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications, along with internal equity considerations. It is not common for new hires to be placed at the top of the range.

Union Affiliation

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the University Staff United (USU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
