Job Description 

The Instructional Designer is responsible for working collaboratively with subject matter experts and cross-functional partners in the systematic design and development of instructional materials and experiences, both digital & physical, in a consistent and iterative fashion that enables efficient, effective, and engaging adult learning. The role will be responsible for creating and overseeing the organization’s development process, reviewing, innovating, and expanding Service, Claims, Sales Development, and external Agency-facing training collateral, implementing advancements and quantifying its success. Additionally, the Designer will act as a peer mentor for trainers and subject matter experts on adult learning and instructional design best practices. Finally, the individual will partner with various stakeholders to build the appropriate infrastructure to support, sustain, and enhance the organization’s current learning environment. 

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Create compelling course content and engaging learning activities to help learners retain and apply what they’ve learned. 
  • Create, implement, and assess effective and inclusive educational materials for all learners. 
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to determine the training requirements and behavioral goals of the target audience before creating content. 
  • Use proven instructional design theories and techniques – including writing compelling, measurable learning objectives, managing cognitive load, and creating environments that are conducive to adult learning. 
  • Engage in instructional research and analysis of learners and situations.
  • Create learning multimedia aids such as audio, video, simulations, role-plays, and games, among other resources. 
  • Determine the criteria for evaluating a learner’s performance and creating assessment tools. 
  • Own instructional design project management to achieve project goals, meet deadlines and ensure quality outcomes, including learning asset accuracy, relevancy, and governance. 
  • Act as a SME to oversee implementation of a standardized methodology like ADDIE (analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate) that can be replicated across the organization. 
  • Develop a sustainable process, leveraging an LMS, for capturing employee training certifications through their professional journey. 
  • Partner across the enterprise, inclusive of Marketing, Legal, HR, and Regulatory, to drive holistic and aligned learning assets, inclusive of B2B training, leveraging third party development activities, and influencing Knowledge Management practices.   
  • Innovate and update existing learning materials to align to adult learning principles across modalities.
  • Act as a SME to inform and guide the evaluation of best-in-class L&D technologies.

Core Skills: 

  • Visual design and creative expertise: Articulate 360, Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, InDesign, Premiere Pro), Camtasia and other visual design tools 
  • Strong writing skills, including scripts, storyboarding, storytelling, facilitator guides, learning objectives, assessments and email communication 
  • Ability to apply instructional design and adult learning science to meet learner’s needs and mentor trainers 
  • LMS, CMS, KMS experience to effectively govern learning and knowledge assets 
  • Project management to successfully oversee the end-to-end learning process 
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving to effectively analyze learning data, assess needs, design to those needs, and evaluate results 

  Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Adult Learning, Leadership Development, Organization Development, Psychology, Human Systems, Instructional Systems Design (or related degrees) or 5+ years of relevant experience 

  Experience: 

  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design techniques (including classroom & virtual content); knowledge of adult learning theories; expertise in developing instructional resources 
  • Experience with collaboration tools, digital instructional tools & Learning Management Systems. 

Salary Range

​The pay range for this position is $79,000 to $105,500 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.​
