Department Summary
The Teaching and Learning Services department has 18 librarians and staff organized across four sub-teams to provide strategic leadership and scalable services that serve the UCLA community’s diverse range of needs for undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and researchers of all types in the areas of teaching and learning.Staff in this department work closely with colleagues in the Research Services department, Distinctive Collections, and Access Services to provide in-person and online research support, teach critical and subject-based information literacy skills, and conduct campus outreach that connects our users with UCLA Library’s services and collections.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Instructional Design Supervisor for Teaching and Learning Services (TLS), the Instructional Designer (ID) provides inclusive, accessible, and innovative instructional design in the Teaching, Learning, and Research enterprise across UCLA Library. The ID works with librarians, campus partners, instructors, and directly with students to create scalable, sustainable solutions to foundational challenges in library support for the research, writing, and creative processes using a wide range of learning strategies, tools and platforms. The ID supports the TLS leadership team’s efforts to develop, implement, and refine assessment strategies that contribute to a culture of learning, improvement, and demonstrating impact for teaching and learning activities. The ID follows an engaged instructional design process to design, develop, maintain, and iteratively improve UCLA Library learning objects and resources in support of research, teaching, and learning. These resources include UCLA Library’s online learning materials hosted on the web and in UCLA’s learning management system, BruinLearn (Canvas), and can range from courses to interactive modules to videos and handouts. The ID provides training and support for staff across UCLA Library to develop their instructional design and learning technology skills, supports the production of online learning resources, assists with instructional initiatives including the design of learning activities and assessments, and developing effective instructional strategies. The ID will serve as a Site Editor for the TLS web presence, partnering with the Library’s Web Steering Committee as needed to support teaching and learning goals and services on the UCLA Library website. The ID may serve on the LibApps team, providing support and training for library colleagues and student employees. The ID will serve as the LibApps LTI tool manager, ensuring Library content is strategically embedded in the learning management system. The ID team collaborates with Campus Library Instructional Computing (CLICC), Access Services, and Library Communications to ensure effective operation of Library instructional spaces.
